Virginia Di Orio

Hi, I'm Lily! I'm a wife, mama to the cutest baby boy, and doula. I share my home with our two pet rabbits, Claude and Cleo, our cat Toby, and our dog Cowgirl (what a crew, I know 😅). My favorite TV show is Call The Midwife or Gilmore Girls (I can’t decide). When I’m not doula-ing you can find me crafting or winning at Uno. When I enter a birth space, I’m the calm voice when things feel heavy, the hype girl when you need confidence, the hip-squeezing, hand-holding professional, and the steady presence reminding you that you are capable. I’m here to help you feel informed, heard, and held through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, no matter what your journey looks like.

Growing up, my mom worked in Labor & Delivery and later at a pregnancy center where she performed ultrasounds and taught childbirth classes. Birth wasn’t something mysterious or hidden in my life, it was normal. It was dinner-table conversation, anatomy charts, baby models, and stories of strength, trust, and surrender.

I was homeschooled, and if you know anything about the homeschool world, you know there always seemed to be a mama who was pregnant, often planning a home birth. As a little girl, I was surrounded by pregnancy and birth stories, watching women trust their bodies and support one another in deeply intuitive ways. One of my earliest memories started with loading into the car alongside my mom and rushing to a friend’s house who was in active labor. I remember sitting on the couch playing with dolls as my mom and her friend stayed secluded in a dark, peaceful bedroom. They stayed there for hours until finally I heard a cry. Even then, I knew something powerful had just happened.
And then there were the babies, the tiny silicone models from my mom’s work, some no bigger than a 12-week pregnancy. I loved them. I would hold them up to my belly and imagine what it felt like to be pregnant, to carry life, to nurture something so small and miraculous. That is where my fascination truly took root. As I got older, I assumed nursing was the natural path for me. I completed my degree with every intention of pursuing it. Along the way, I found out I was having my own baby. I was scared. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me this time. I read the books, watched the videos, took the classes, I even took an doula course and became certified. That course fed my spark into a fire and I quickly realized my heart was rooted in holistic maternal care. I didn’t want moms to feel like pregnancy and birth were something to be rushed and medicalized. I wanted to experience the natural, be there in the long hours, and sit with them in it. Becoming a doula felt like coming home. Now I get to walk alongside families during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives. I get to be the steady presence, the advocate, the calm in the room. This work bridges where I’ve been and where I’m going as I continue my journey toward becoming a licensed midwife. My goal will always be to support labor as it comes and honor birth as it is.
